Turn Out Gear Repairs
NFPA 1851 states that all repairs must be performed by the original manufacturer, a trained verified ISP, or a member of the organization who has received training.

HAWAII PPE staff is trained and experienced at performing repairs at NFPA 1851 standards. All repairs and alterations made to firefighter turnout gear is done using like materials and components as the manufacturer’s method of construction which are compliant.

We know repairs are necessary to properly protect firefighters. When your turnout gear is in our hands, you can trust that any repairs and alterations being made are to the highest standard.
Advanced Cleanings
In order to be NFPA 1851 compliant, turnout gear must be advanced cleaned to NFPA 1851 standards. The standards include the following:

NFPA 1851 calls for advanced cleanings of firefighter turnout gear to be conducted twice a year minimum.

Advanced cleanings should also be conducted when routine cleaning fails to render the turnout gear sufficiently clean for service.

Complete documentation of all advanced cleanings will be kept on file by HAWAII PPE for the life of the PPE garment.​
Advanced Inspections
In order to be NFPA 1851 compliant, turnout gear must be inspected to NFPA 1851 standards. Inspection requirements include the following:

NFPA 1851 requires that firefighter turnout gear have an advanced inspection twice a year, or whenever routine inspections indicate that a problem could exist. Advanced inspections must be conducted by the manufacturer, a manufacturer trained organization, or a verified ISP.

Complete documentation of all advanced inspections will be kept on file by HAWAII PPE for the life of the PPE garment.​
